Matagorda County United Way Donors Help to Fund
18 Non-profit Organizations for 2008
MCUW would like to thank each and eery one of their donors and volunteers who continue to keep United Way the largest source of non-governmental funding of social services for area non-profit organizations. United Way is proactive in its funding favoring preventative approaches and collaborative endeavors with not-for-profit partners. Priority is given to organizations that leverage additional support and serve as a catalyst for long-term, systematic change. Only admission packets from tax-exempt, charitable Health & Human Service organizations serving citizens of Matagorda County were accepted.
The Matagorda County United Way (MCUW) Board recently approved final funding for 18 Health & Human Service Non-profits for 2008. Priority funding was awarded to organizations with programs in the following categories: Thriving Children, Healthy People, Strong Communuities, Vibrant Neighborhoods and Self-Sufficient People.
The Matagorda County United Way Partner Agencies that were funded in 2008: American Red Cross-Bay City Chapter, Association for Retarded Citizens, Bay City Day Care, Boy Scouts of America - Sam Houston Area Council, The Robert Duran Caring & Sharing Food Pantry, Council on Substance Abuse, DARE - Tidehaven ISD, Economic Action Committee of the Gulf Coast, Friends of the Elder Citizens, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, Kids in Distress Services, Literacy Volunteers of America, Matagorda County Teen Court, Matagorda Episcopal Hospital Outreach Program (MEHOP), Rainbow Land Day Care, The Women's Crisis Center. In addition to the above organizations, funds were set aside for local scouting scholarships and activities as well as funds for the HELPLINE Information & Referral services. These donor-designated dollars will be sent on to qualifying organizations throughout the year. Local colunteers determine all United Way Policies, Procedures, Fund distribution and other criteria.
