National Board Program (EFSP)
United Way of America serves as the fiscal agent and secretariat for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP). The EFSP is a public/private partnership with the American Red Cross; Catholic Charities USA; the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; The Salvation Army; United Jewish Communities: United Way of America; and, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The staff of the EFSP implements the program according to the law and the National Board guidelines. Allocations are made annually to approximately 2,500 jurisdictions from the Congressional appropriation. Over 10,500 agencies receive funds to provide services to the hungry and homeless for non-disaster related emergencies.
